Gregory Kealoha Helenihi

Lead/Rhythm Guitar, Ukulele, Vocals

Greg Helenihi was born in Key West, Florida while his father was stationed at the Navy Base there. The family moved to Oahu and lived at times in Ewa Beach, Waipahu, and Kalihi before finally moving to San Diego to settle down.

Being one of the sons of Clinton Helenihi, Greg has always been surrounded by Hawaiian music. As a youngster watching the best Hawaiian musicians in San Diego work their magic, Greg worked on improving his guitar playing. Although Greg spent time learning to play rock and even heavy metal music, dad would always encourage (but not force) the two brothers to work on Hawaiian music as well. Eventually joining dad and brother (reluctantly) in various Hawaiian groups, he gradually began to learn the artistry required for Hawaiian music. After being given the task to learn songs to play for various Halau in the San Diego area, Greg found that he had a knack for learning and playing back what was given to him.

Greg's musical influences include: Peter Moon, Brothers Robert and Roland Cazimero (Sunday Manoa), Brothers John and Jerome Koko, Moon Kauakahi, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole (The Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau), Horace Dudoit, Manu Boyd, Chris Kamaka, Glen Smith (Ho'okena), Kahauanu Lake (The Kahauanu Lake Trio), Brothers Ledward and Nedward Ka'apana, Dennis Pavao (Hui O Hana), Gabby Pahinui, Eddie Kamae (Sons of Hawaii), Troy Fernandez (Ka'au Crater Boys) Gordon Freitas, Todd Adamski (Local Folk), to name a few as well as local San Diego musicians Uncle Eddie Pahinui, Uncle Bobby Ohumukini, Uncle Sonny Soares, Uncle Benny Hanaike, and Uncle Clinton Helenihi (dad).
