Clinton Helenihi Jr. (Braddah "Wuz")

6 & 12 String Guitar, Lead Vocals

As a young boy on Oahu, Clint can remember family get together's always included good food and good music. "Dad, (Clint Sr) was always there with uncles and aunties, pulling out the ukulele's and guitars and singing all day and night." Even his mother would contribute with her guitar playing and "hillbilly" songs from her younger days. Clint got his first guitar for his 10th birthday. His dad started teaching him Hawaiian "slack key", and soon he and his brother Greg were entertaining family members from Hawaii to San Diego to Virginia. In 1977, with the release of the album Guava Jam by the Sunday Manoa, Clint's interest and appreciation of Hawaiian music took off, and in 1978, Clint Sr and his sons started a Hawaiian band with uncle Eddie Paihinui and his son Russell Paihinui. From then on it was in his blood. Clint went on to play the bass guitar for a few years and then drums.

Clint's dad, Clint Helenihi Sr and his brother Greg are Clint's greatest musical influences. He has had the great fortune to play with, and learn from many great artists over the years including Gordon Freitas of Local Folk, Mark Yim of the Peter Moon Band, Kimo and Mei-Ling Artis and Roland "Tuffy" Chang of Kanilau, and all the uncles and aunties at family "kanikapila". He has been in numerous Hawaiian bands over the years including the Na Ali`i Serenaders, Tropical Magic and Joe Banana and his Bunch (with uncle Bobby Ohumukini). With Ohana Plus, he along with brother Greg, Derwin Butler and Joe Iosefa are really enjoying the Hawaiian music experience, while experimenting with other forms of music . But we will never forget our roots and our culture.

"Play whatever music you like, but don't forget your roots. No one else will teach our culture to our kids but us. Hawaiian Pride."
