Ohana Plus is a San Diego based band that specializes in Hawaiian music. What is the significance of the name Ohana Plus? Well, "Ohana" is Hawaiian for "family", and this is appropriate since Greg Helenihi and Clint Helenihi are brothers. And the "Plus" is represented by our "other brothers" Derwin Butler and Joe Iosefa. We are all ohana now.

Ohana Plus was formed in 1995 by Clinton Helenihi Sr and his two sons Clint Jr and Greg. There have been various additional members of the group, representing the "Plus" in Ohana Plus. But Clinton and his sons have always been the nucleus of the group. In July of 2003, Clinton Sr suffered a serious stroke that forced him to retire from playing music. After some careful consideration, Clint Jr and Greg decided to keep Ohana Plus alive.

Ohana Plus' Hawaiian music influences include great Hawaiian groups such as The Makaha Sons, The Sunday Manoa, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, Ho'okena, and The Brothers Cazimero. Additionally, we were greatly influence by our uncles and aunties that taught us the music and the dances of Hawaii. Ohana Plus exists for two main reasons. First we love playing Hawaiian music and sharing our culture with others. Whether it be performing on stage or "kanikapila" in the back yard, it's a great way to spend time and share our culture with our ohana and friends. Secondly, and more importantly, we want to pass on our music and culture to our children, the next generation of ohana, just as our mothers and fathers and aunties and uncles did for us. Please come enjoy the Ohana Plus experience, and we are sure you will leave with a deep sense of aloha.

Mahalo nui loa, a hui hou malama pono, (Thank you very much, take care until we meet again)
